The two large ceramic barrels were crafted by Hollinshead & Kirkham in Tunstall during the late 19th century, around the 1880s. Each barrel exhibits a rich cream color depicting a pond with ducks and lillies. The barrels feature a prominent spout at the bottom, which would have been ideal for dispensing liquids, and both are adorned with elegant script, one with Lemon and the other Vimto. The barrels are in good order with some discolouration and fading / loss to gilding and crazing. Please see photos. They are fine examples of Victorian-era ceramic craftsmanship, combining both utility and aesthetic appeal.
The smaller ceramic barrel, also from the same period is designed specifically for holding and dispensing sherry. It shares the same decorative style as the larger Hollinshead & Kirkham barrels, with a cream base color accented by blue and brown designs and depicts a Stag. The barrel is more compact, making it perfect for tabletop use. It also features a spout for easy pouring and is marked with the word “Sherry” in an elegant script, indicating its intended use. The piece remains in good condition, with signs of wear to gilding and a charming addition to any collection of Victorian ceramics.
The large ones measure approx 28cm in height and smaller one measures approx 20cm in height
